McLanahan Roll Crushers
Reliable Crushing and Size Reduction for Mining and Mineral Processing
McLanahan Roll Crushers are compression-type crushing machines designed to reduce friable and moderately hard materials to a controlled product size.
Roll Crushers are available in different configurations to suit a wide range of applications, including primary, secondary and tertiary crushing. Their relatively low-speed crushing action makes them suitable for applications where controlled size reduction, high throughput and reduced generation of fines are important.
Depending on the application, McLanahan Roll Crushers can be configured as single-roll, double-roll or triple-roll crushers.
How McLanahan Roll Crushers Work
Roll Crushers reduce material by compressing it between rotating roll surfaces and a crushing surface or between two counter-rotating rolls.
Material enters the crusher through the top of the crushing chamber. As the rolls rotate, they draw the material into the crushing zone and apply compressive forces that break the material into smaller pieces.
The crushed material passes through the crusher once it reaches a size smaller than the selected crushing gap.
The roll configuration, roll diameter, roll speed and crushing setting are selected according to the feed material and required product size.
Single-Roll Crushers
Single-Roll Crushers use a rotating roll working against a stationary crushing plate.
As material enters the crushing chamber, the rotating roll grabs and pulls the feed into the crushing zone. The material is then compressed and broken against the crushing plate.
Single-Roll Crushers are particularly suitable for primary crushing applications where large feed material needs to be reduced to a controlled product size.
Double-Roll Crushers
Double-Roll Crushers use two counter-rotating rolls.
The rolls draw the material between them and apply compression, breaking the material into smaller particles.
The gap between the rolls controls the product size, while the roll design and tooth configuration can be selected according to the material and application.
Double-Roll Crushers can be used for primary, secondary and tertiary crushing depending on the configuration.
Triple-Roll Crushers
Triple-Roll Crushers incorporate three crushing rolls to provide additional stages of size reduction within a single machine.
They can be used when a greater reduction is required or where multiple crushing stages need to be combined into one compact unit.
The configuration of each roll can be selected to achieve the required product size and reduction ratio.
Product Size Control
Product size is primarily controlled by the crushing gap or Closed-Side Setting (CSS).
A smaller gap generally produces a finer product, while a larger gap produces a coarser product and can increase throughput.
The appropriate setting should be selected according to the required product size, feed characteristics and overall crushing circuit.
High Reduction with Controlled Fines
Roll Crushers provide controlled compression crushing and can produce a relatively uniform product with less excessive fines generation than some high-speed impact crushing applications.
The actual reduction ratio depends on the crusher configuration, feed size, material characteristics and required product size.
Handling Sticky and Wet Materials
Roll Crushers can be suitable for certain wet or sticky materials, depending on the material characteristics and crusher configuration.
Special roll designs and configurations can help reduce material build-up and maintain continuous operation.
Application testing and proper equipment selection are recommended for highly sticky or difficult materials.
Wear Components
Roll surfaces, teeth and other crushing components are exposed to continuous impact, compression and abrasion.
Depending on the crusher design, replaceable wear components can be used to maintain crushing performance and simplify maintenance.
The appropriate wear material and tooth configuration should be selected based on material hardness, abrasiveness and other application conditions.
