CMB Cone Crushers

Efficient Crushing for Mining and Aggregate Applications

McLanahan CMB Cone Crushers are robust compression-type crushers designed for the efficient reduction of medium to hard materials in mining, aggregates and other demanding applications.

The crusher reduces material by compressing it between a moving crushing member and a stationary concave liner. As material moves through the crushing chamber, the progressively smaller opening reduces the material to the required product size.

CMB Cone Crushers can achieve reduction ratios typically ranging from 4:1 to 6:1, with higher reduction ratios possible in certain coarse-crushing applications.

How CMB Cone Crushers Work

Material is continuously choke fed into the crushing chamber to maintain a full chamber and promote efficient inter-particle crushing.

The main shaft and eccentric mechanism create the required movement of the crushing head. Material is compressed between the moving mantle and the stationary concave liners, progressively reducing in size as it moves downward through the chamber.

The crushed material exits through the bottom of the crusher once it reaches the required size.

Closed-Side Setting (CSS)

The Closed-Side Setting (CSS) is the gap between the mantle and concave at their closest point. It is one of the primary factors controlling the final product size.

A smaller CSS generally produces a finer product, but it also reduces the crusher's throughput capacity. As a general guide, approximately twice the CSS can be used as an indication of the top size of the product, although actual product gradation depends on the application and operating conditions.

Choke Feeding

Proper choke feeding is essential for achieving stable operation, good product shape and high throughput.

A well-maintained choke feed keeps the crushing chamber full and promotes inter-particle crushing. McLanahan recommends uniform distribution of feed around the crusher inlet to maintain consistent performance.

Hydraulic Adjustment and Tramp Relief

CMB Cone Crushers incorporate hydraulic adjustment, allowing the discharge setting to be adjusted quickly and easily.

The hydraulic system also provides tramp metal relief, automatic reset and a chamber-clearing function. If uncrushable material enters the crushing chamber, the system allows the upper frame to lift, providing a path for the material to pass through and helping protect the crusher.

Applications

CMB Cone Crushers are suitable for a wide range of applications, including:

  • Mining and mineral processing

  • Aggregates

  • Quarrying

  • Sand and gravel

  • Secondary crushing

  • Tertiary crushing

They are designed for medium to hard materials and can handle both dry and wet feed, provided the material is not excessively sticky.
